ok so my cat Zeppelin has no problem peeing but if we aren't there to immediately flush the toilet he won't poo and will on the floor instead. actually he was in the tub but we taped the shower curtian to the wall XD. so now he will only poo on the floor except for one time according to my dad but i don't think he peed. im trying to be there more when he needs to go so i can flush for him but what else can i do? also i've noticed sometimes when he does need to poo he will position himself with his "knees" on his hind legs pushed into his sides when positioned over the hole, then he'll give up and just hop on the floor and no matter how much i try he will refuse to go on the LK. what should i do with him?

WOW. This is exactly that same problem as mine. My cats name is rumpelstiltskin, and he was kicking a$$ then all of a sudden he started to follow this exact pattern. I have seen this same post all over the forums and there is never a answer. In fact, there is loads of people that just end up giving up on the LK system. Isn't there a moderator to this site? I want some advice damn it!

1) change Zeppelin's eating schedule: monitor how long it takes from meal time till potty time and change feeding times accordingly so you could be home when he has to potty. If my cat eats at 7AM and 9PM, he'll go potty at 5AM next morning. Works ok for us as that's when hubby wakes up and by that time toilet is cleaned by my heroic efforts 2) buy enzymatic cleaner: cat's nose is so much more powerful and sensitive - they can smell things we can't. Especially when it comes to their waste. Enzymatic cleaners are specifically formulated to eliminate (destroy) the bacteria that creates this smell. If you don't have one already, make sure you get one! 3) watch Zeppelin when he needs to do Nr2: seems he has developed the habit of going to the floor. You need to change that by reinforcing good behavior. Take him to toilet, put him up and what I do here is either I'd take their paw and make snatching/digging moves or position entire body as appropriate and then I'd give LOTS of praises and treats. Soon he'll realize that in order to get his favorite yummy super duper treat, he'll have to "perform the trick" and it'll click. 4) potty dance: after changing his eating regime and knowing more or less when he'll need to do Nr2, you can take him to toilet and put him up and hope he'll get the message. When he jumps down, pick him up again and do all over again. This is so called potty dance. I personally don't prefer this method, but many users swear by it... worth to mention. 5) install auto flusher: after all, this might be just the right solution. It costs a bit, yes, but you're saving discomfort to your kitty and yourself. Quote:

Hi,
You need to get an automatic flusher. Lot's of people get them for fully trained cats as it makes no sense to manually check the toilet every time. Might take the cat a little while to get used to it flushing, but you will probably also need to adjust it to go off a little while after the cat gets off the toilet or something. |
