Cool POLL... from Red to Amber - how did you do it?

    Hello everyone,

From recent discussions, other people replies, my own pondering and experience I have a question stuck in my mind: how did you make the transition from Red to Amber?

    1) with cardboard/CD method
    2) with red-under-amber method
    3) I let my cat to get used to it over the time

    Thanks in advance!

    With regards,
    Sintija

Didn't have a problem. Had to skip red as the cats hated it (mind you, they were used to having a hole under their butts due to their previous homemade training setup). However, I did order the MK just in case.

I used the red-under-amber method. I tried switching straight from the red disk to the MultiKat amber disk, and Fry was okay with it, but Majel absolutely refused to use it that way. I tried putting toilet paper down in the bowl and put litter on it to block the sight of the water, but it didn't help. Next I tried nestling the MultiKat amber disk directly into the red disk, and putting that in the LK so she could see and smell the new disk while the red disk was still there to block the hole.

After doing this for about two days, I moved the red disk down into the toilet bowl with some litter on it. Majel refused to use this setup until I put an enormous amount of litter onto the red disk, enough so that the litter came all the way up to within an inch of the hole in the MultiKat amber disk. Majel finally accepted the hole this way, and from there I reduced the amount of litter in the red disk every time she went. A few days later, she used the MultiKat amber disk without the red disk in the toilet at all, and it was all fine from then on.

Aurora: thank you very much for your reply!

I remember reading your story and thinking "how in God's name she managed to clean up all that mess??" I found it quite comical that Majel needed a huge pile of litter - i imagined that and coudln't help but smile. I'm very glad you guys moved on and everything is fine now.

    Default Red under amber

I did red under amber...because I was too nervous about the mess cardboard could cause (wouldn't it soak up the pee and stink?!) Plus I dont have much cardboard lying around to switch it as often as he went. I did what Aurora did and had a huge mound of litter coming up to the amber ring. I justified using a lot of litter because eventually I wouldnt be using any at all! It worked well for him! He's now on the green stage and not having any problems with it!
